May 29-30, 2018 in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, the ITU Regional Wokshop "Broadband Development" was held, organized by the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau with the support of the Communications Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

     The workshop is intended for representatives of ministries and departments, regulators, telecommunication operators, higher and general educational institutions, telecommunication equipment manufacturers, research institutes, software developers and other interested organizations of Member States, Sector Members and Associate ITU members from the CIS region.

     Within the first day of the ITU Regional workshop, presentations and presentations were made on the following issues:

  •  ITU activities in the CIS region;
  • Implementation of broadband in developing countries. Results of studies on Question 1/1 of ITU-D Study Group 1 in the study period 2014-2017. and the Work Plan for Research in the Research Period 2018-2021;
  • The role of groups of network operators and points of traffic exchange in the development of telecommunications infrastructure;
  • The program "Digital Central Asia - South Asia";
  • Digital CASA program. Experience of Kyrgyzstan;
  • Development of broadband access in the countries of the region. Guidelines for the formation of the broadband development strategy;
  • Modern approaches to the selection of the most suitable solution for the construction of telecommunications networks;
  • BroadbandCalculator.online: an automated system for selecting the most promising solution for building broadband access networks;
  • Tools for estimating broadband Internet access. measurement of quality parameters;
  • Central Asian Research and Education Network (CAREN) and development of applications;
  • Development of broadband access in the Kyrgyz Republic and impact on the concept of Tazakom (electronic digitalization of the country).

     At the ITU Regional workshop, the Director General of the RCC Executive Committee Mr. Nurudin Mukhitdinov made a report on "Broadband Access to the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals".

     Within the framework of the workshop, the issues that are most relevant to date have been considered: the formation of a broadband strategy and policy, the introduction of broadband access in developing countries, the deployment of broadband access in remote areas, etc.

     At the end of the ITU Regional workshop, a final discussion was held on the topic: "Current trends in the organizational and technical development of broadband access" in the format of a round table. As part of this discussion, the workshop participants noted the practical importance of the reports presented to international organizations, ministries and departments, higher education institutions and private companies.

     Due to the business and constructive situation created by the specialists of the ITU Regional Office for the CIS countries, as well as the Communication Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, a multilateral exchange of views on a number of important issues was held, all tasks were successfully addressed and resolved.
