Within the framework of the International Telecommunication Union the World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Meeting which approves the List of ITU’s telecommunication/ICT indicators for the next year on the basis of proposals received from all countries-ITU members is held annually.
In 2009-2010 within the limits of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau ITU on-line Forum on discussion of changes in the final version of the List of ITU’s telecommunication/ICT indicators was organized.
Active participation in discussions took about 40 countries. As a result 118 proposals were made and presented for consideration within the framework of the Expert Group meeting which took place in Geneva 29-31 March 2010.
Representatives of the European Union, Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications, representatives of the countries of the Latin America, Africa, Asia, international organizations such as: Eurostat, OECD, the GSM Association and Intel Corporation became members of the Expert Group.
Оn the instructions of the RCC Commission on the Economy of Communications Ms. Eleonora Vasilachi, Head of the Department of Analysis, Monitoring and Policy Evaluation represented Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications.
Within the framework of the Expert Group meeting proposals on the improvement and additions to the List of ITU’s telecommunication/ICT indicators received from the Communication Administrations of the ITU member states, regulators and other organizations were considered.
RCC Common Contribution to the ITU’s telecommunication/ICT indicators worked out by the RCC Commission on the Economy of Communications was also presented. RCC proposals concern additions to the List of indicators by mobile Internet indicators characterizing number of subscribers, mobile Internet traffic, tariffs for the mobile Internet. It was suggested to supplement the List of ITU’s telecommunication/ICT indicators with a new section related to recording of the ICT indicators reflecting level of software support, electronic services expansion. All received proposals were discussed and accepted as a basis for further work.
A new subsection “WIRELESS BROADBAND/wireless Broadband Internet” related to wireless broadband Internet which contains RCC proposals on recording the number of mobile internet subscribers was offered by the Expert Group to be included.
RCC Commission on the Economy on Communications considering results of the ITU Expert Group work made a decision to continue work on participation in improving the List of ITU’s telecommunication/ICT indicators. According to this within the framework of the RCC Initiative Group of experts it is planned to work out indicator for a new section, characterizing level of software development, electronic services expansion with the instructions on definition and algorithm of these indicators calculation.
